Armed School Staff Essential Training (ASSET)
Strategic Training Group, LLC has been approved by the Ohio School Safety Center (OSSC) to provide the required ASSET Training.
Armed School Staff Essential Training (ASSET) Curriculum was developed to meet the requirements outlined in House Bill 99. The legislation permits Ohio school boards to opt to arm specific staff who complete training on curriculum by OSSC.
The new ASSET curriculum includes 24 hours of initial training and 8 hours of annual recertification training, the maximum number of hours permitted by law.
Both the initial and recertification training include scenario-based training, mitigation techniques, de-escalation techniques, critical incident tactics, tactical live firearm training, neutralization of potential threats and active shooters.
Other modules will include reunification, psychology of critical incidents, crisis intervention trauma and first aid care, history and patterns of school shootings.
Development of additional curriculum is underway for districts that choose to require more training than what is mandated by the state.
Schools can contact Dean Boerger at dean@strategictraining.org or call (614) 481-0777 for more information and course details.
