Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTC) Firearms Training

Strategic Training Group, LLC "STG" offers Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTC) to include the OPOTC private security firearms qualification and re-qualification course, firearms for protection specialist, carbine and shotgun training. It is a well established reality that “we fight like we train.” It is for this reason that we emphasize hands-on, interactive and scenario-based training. Most of our courses involve some degree of physical activity and participation. We make every effort to simulate real-life stress and circumstances, to provide realistic training in order to better prepare the student for success in the real world. Requalification Factoid: Did you know that you can requalify with all weapons you are OPOTC certified with on the same day? You would complete the course paperwork, take the written test then shoot the drills for each weapon. Saves time and money!

OPOTC 20 Hour Semi-Auto Course

This is the State of Ohio qualification course to carry a semi-auto pistol as an armed security officer.

 

Day 1 - Classroom instruction including, but not limited to: firearm safety, use of deadly force, state statutes regarding use of force, handgun nomenclature, private security responsibilities as an armed officer, defensive tactics. Location: 1580 King Avenue, Suite 103, Columbus, OH 43212  Written Test

Students need to provide a semi-auto pistol, holster, two magazines with holders, eye & ear protection, billed ballcap and a minimum of 200 rounds of ammunition.

 

 

OPOTC Requalification Course
OPOTC Requalification Course

Students who have completed their initial firearms qualification course must re-qualify PRIOR to the expiration date listed on their certificate. Individuals may re-qualify up to 90 days prior to their expiration date in order to maintain their original re-qualification date. (Ohio Administrative Code 109:2-3-10). Students MUST provide a copy of their current firearms certification or a copy of their "guard card" with the current firearms expiration date on it if you have not completed this course through STG.

Students need to provide a semi-auto pistol or revolver, holster, two magazines (speed loaders) with holders, and/or a pump-action shotgun, eye & ear protection, and 100 rounds of handgun ammunition / 20 rounds 00 Buck. Red dots or lasers are not allowed as this is a basic firearms requalification.

OPOTC 5 Hour Shotgun Course
OPOTC 5 Hour Shotgun Course

This is the State of Ohio qualification course to carry a shotgun as an armed security officer.  The course will review the basics of combat shooting a shotgun, stance, mounting the shotgun, aiming, trigger management, moving targets, shooting positions, tuck positions, the free snap, adverse light conditions, pivots & turns and the use of cover. Written Test

Students need to provide a serviceable pump-action shotgun with a sling, a billed ballcap, appropriate eye & ear protection and 20 rounds of 00 Buckshot.  You will also need your duty rig and handgun with 50-100 rounds for transition drills.

Executive Protection Firearms Training
Firearms for the Protection Specialist

This is a "Next Level" course for concealed carry permit holders, protection specialist and those who want to improve their response to a violent threat.  This is also a supplemental course to our "Introduction to Executive Protection" Course.

Mr. Rick Colliver will be the guest instructor.  Rick is an accomplished firearms and executive protection instructor.  Rick wrote some of the executive protection industry standards in his book "Principal Protection; Lessons Learned."

This course incorporates practical principal protection scenarios utilizing unarmed defense and firearms skills.  This is Protection Course, NOT a learn how to shoot course. You MUST have advanced proficiency skills with your handgun, especially drawing from a concealed carry.  Proof of prior handgun proficiency may be required. Current US Military; Sworn LE Officers; Armed Security / Protection Specialists. This is a physical course and you must be fit enough to perform the drills.

Students will need to provide:
1) Baseball type cap with visor
2) Water and sunscreen
3) Sturdy shoes or boots (NO FLIP FLOPS OR SANDALS)
4) Serviceable firearm
5) Sturdy belt to attach a
6) Quality holster designed for the weapon carried
7) At least two extra magazines
8) Eye and ear protection
9) 300 Rounds of ammo
10) Personal needs/meds
11) Vest, jacket or other outer garment (all draws are from concealed carry)

Range fees and targets are included in the cost.  Advance registration is required.
